The Marvelous Jerangkang Waterfalls
The Jerangkang Falls can be reached from the KL-Kuantan road. About 30 km after passing Maran, turn left at a signboard 'Hutan Lipur Jerangkang'. Transport to the falls can be arranged from a nearby kampung. Contact us for more info. Camping near the waterfall From the place where the car can be parked, it is only a 15 minute walk to the first waterfall. Near this waterfall there is a perfect place for camping. The fall ends in a nice pool, the campsite's own bathroom... Trekking along the river From the campsite a clear trail leads uphill alongside the river. The main trail is on the right bank, but it is also possible to cross the river and follow the left bank. An 'endless' succession of waterfalls is the reward, most of them with attractive pools Waterfalls, waterfalls and more waterfalls According to the locals, there is a total of 43 separate waterfalls. This series of waterfalls belongs definitely to the most attractive that can be found in Malaysia! The trail is well marked, but in the upper parts, some scrambling is required This region is well-known with the locals for its beautiful orchids Because the river has eroded a broad gully, it is never difficult to find your way back
The road leads through rubber plantations and passes under the new KL-Kuantan Highway.
For the last part a 4WD is needed, but that may change as work is in progress on the access road.
Still clean, but for how long?
A nice place to relax
These pictures cover the falls until step 15, so there is still work to be done...!

Taming Sari Tower
Melaka’s latest tourist attraction, Menara Taming Sari (Revolving Tower), is expected to open to public on 7th Apr 2008 (Monday). Menara Taming Sari is located at Bandar Hilir, beside Dataran Pahlawan Megamall. This 110m high revolving tower was built using Swiss technology at a total cost of RM23mil. It is the first of its kind in the country with a revolving observation cabin, which provides a breathtaking 360-degree view of the entire historical areas in Melaka city. The air-conditioned revolving viewing cabin is equipped with 80 seats. It revolves as it rises from ground level to the top of the tower. Each viewing session would last 7 minutes. The tower is expected to serve 3 viewing sessions every hour. In addition to the revolving tower for visitors to enjoy bird view of Melaka city, the ticketing building will also be fitted with 5 commercial outlets, which includes cafe, restaurant, and souvenir shops. Today, 2 days before the scheduled public opening, engineers are working on some final engineering and mechanical touches on the revolving tower and conduct hourly testing, to ensure that it is completely safe for public visitors. During my visit, the cabin air-conditioning equipments were being tested. Admission Fees for MyKad Holders RM10 for adults, RM5 for children below 12 years old, and RM7 for senior citizens above 55 years old. Admission Fees Visitors without MyKad RM20 for adults, RM10 for children below 12 years old, and RM17 for senior citizens above 55 years old. Operating hours: 10am to 10pm daily A Little Bit of History Menara Taming Sari was supposed to be built near The Stadthuys (Dutch Square). But, the plan was stopped and relocated, when an ancient Portuguese wall - Middleburg Bastion, was discovered on the site.

Backpacker and Travel Tips from people who have been there and done it
•The little plastic containers that camera film comes in are excellent for storing things. The best use I found for them was salt and pepper holders.
• If you're a drinker, make sure you have your own wine/bottle opener! Sometimes you can get them as key rings. You'll never find one in a hostel cause they're constantly stolen.
• Always travel with a pack of cards. It's the best way to make friends and a lifesaver if you're staying in a hostel with no TV.
• A sarong has many uses. It acts as a tablecloth during a picnic. A wrap around if you've unfortunately managed to fry your legs to a crunchy crusty crisp in the midday sun. A belt that keeps your trousers up. A blanket to sit on while relaxing on the beach or in the park. Finally, my personal favourite, if you're lucky enough to get a bottom bunk, you can pin it under the mattress above so you get a little more privacy.
• Don't leave home without a journal. The scribbled stories from Singapore , tales from Thailand and memories of amazing people and places will be what you treasure when you're in your 50s. Think of it less as a journal or diary and more as the story of your travels. Your own little book!
• The best way to carry detergent is in a plastic water bottle. It's both safe and convenient. Some people have to learn the hard way that, glass bottles can't withstand long drops, even when they're safely snuggled in your rucksack and paper bags tend to tear. (Seriously, I'm not that dumb, but…we'll say no more.)
• If you treat yourself to a meal in a fast food place, make full use of your trip and stock up on all those lovely sachets of salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, jam, napkins and anything else you can get your hands on that's free, without getting arrested of course! Pulling your T-shirt out and bending it back to make a rather sizeable pouch is the best way to carry your new found friends!
• Always carry a roll of toilet paper with you. It comes in so handy in so many ways. Toilet paper – not just an ass wiper.
• Find out the population of your own country, city and any other fascinating facts, preferably before you leave home, or alternatively, while you're travelling. The Internet's filled with information that should have been stuffed into our heads while we were in school. You don't want to look stupid when a foreigner asks you simple questions about home. And believe me, they will.
• When buying international phone cards…shop around. When ringing home, always pay for the local call instead of using the free phone number on the card. You're charged a fortune for this and your card won't last half as long. It's a right slimy dead fish slam in the face when you think you have half an hour to talk to your loved one at home, while in reality you get four minutes.
• Invest in a VIP, HI or any other form of backpacker card if you intend to stay in alot of hostels. You'd be amazed how much money you'll save over the duration of a few months. Most cards give a discount of at least a dollar/pound per night in a hostel.
• Some hostels do free pickups from the airport, train station or bus station. Email your chosen hostel before hand and check it out, saves on taxi or bus costs. It also prevents you from fumbling around lost while trying to balance a ridiculously enormous rucksack on your back.
• There's usually a free food shelf in most hostels. The minute you enter the kitchen in the morning, check it out! When people move on they don't want to be carrying extra bags of pasta that weigh them down. Refrigerators in hostels usually get cleaned out once a week, so get in there while the goings good. It may sound desperate, but believe me, when you've been travelling long enough and finances are almost none existent, a bag of pasta could mean the difference between eating dinner or keeping everyone in your dorm room awake with unearthly hungry stomach growling syndrome.
• Always wear a pair of cheap, plastic flip-flops while showering. Hundreds of people use hostel showers and I've heard some really bad stories about what people get up to in them.
• Don't be one of those people who has a rucksack full of plastic bags. Invest in a nice little wash bag for yourself and your bits and bobs. Sleeping in a dorm and being woken by a rustling plastic bag at 5 in the morning is frankly a pain in the ass, and no backpacker will thank you for disturbing their sleep!
• Especially for the girls. Sometimes it's difficult for us lady backpackers to look and smell our best. If you're feeling a little yucky or you're heading out somewhere nice for the night, nip into any large department store and sample their perfume. If you smell pretty, you feel pretty. Sure, while you're at it, maybe a little nail varnish or eye shadow wouldn't go a stray. Boys, same goes for you, sample some nice after-shave. And remember fellas, experimentation with colours is always encouraged.
• Some large city libraries have free Internet access. Libraries are also one of the best places to spend a rainy day. You can brush up on your next destination in the travel section and get hostel names and numbers from books such as the Lonely Planet.
• Always check out the Tourist Information Centre in the city that you are visiting. They're the people who know what's on for free. Many cities have free admissions or cheaper ticket days to galleries, museums and cinemas.
• For Gods sake, always carry insect repellent. If you're moving on to a different country don't be naïve and think, “I'll buy it when I get there!” Those little bastards that bite will have you in bits before you even know it! If you have been bludgeoned to death by the feckers and tend to react badly to them, take some anti-histamines, they'll calm your bites right down!
• And remember, you'll probably never get a chance like this again…Travelling broads the mind. Teaches you lessons that remain with you forever. You see things you couldn't have even imagined and meet people that are so extraordinarily fascinating. So talk to everyone you meet, learn as much as you can about what and who surrounds you each day, laugh lots, forget about the financial debt you are incurring and discover who you really are!
This is your time-out to live the way you want and be who you always knew you could be!

Lazy Boyz at Perhentian Island part 2 (Diving's like Sex)
Our trip basicly just to release tension after work hectic and to relax. Just wanna have with office mate and new frez. 6 boys and 3 girls and most of us are office mate. We have plan and it's take a long coz each of us so busy with work and every try to arrange the schuelde . I'm glad the trip succesfull and everyone satisfied with the trip although ade yang mabuk laut hehhee.
This my short story about my trip:
Trip member : me , ikim , shima , eji , farid, fazrul, mirul, anan amari , hanif
Date : 8 Mei to 11 Mei 2008
8 MEI 2008 :
We take bus from Stesen Bus Section 17 aroud 8.30 pm . Our bus is double decker (BAS MAHLIGAI).Then bus tu akan ke kl untuk ambil penumpang selebihnya .
Sampai di kami Perhentian Kecil at Coray Bay kami terus check in di chalet kami iaitu Senja Bay Resort hujung sebelah kanan mengadap pantai.
Pada waktu malam kami just berehat . Dinner kami disediakan oleh resort kami . Semuanya termasuk dlm pakej. Then makan sambil layan movie . Kemudian ambil gambar di tepi pantai oleh kawan kami anan amri yg kerja dia mmg gambar jer siap bawa lighting dan payungnyer sekali.
10 MEI 2008 :
Jam 9.30 am kami bertolak utk snokeling trip selepas breakfast.
Then kami di bawa ker kawasan Mystery Point memang sungguh misteri kerana kami jer ade time tu , then Turtle Beach dan Turtle Point tp kami tak jumpa penyu mungkin disebabkan air keruh so kami tak nampak aper. Then kami ker shark point.
Lepas lunch kami berehat dan tido kerana keletihan .Then mlm tu selepas dinner kami ade kareoke bersama penghuni chalet yg lain. Then kami ke Long Beach untuk melihat suasana di waktu malam. Memang suasana berbeza sedikit dgn Coral Bay .
Kos pakej kami sebenar:RM 320 perpax
-1 bilik 3 org
-6 kali makan (buffet)
-Snorkeling 6 kali bernilai RM 40
Kos tamabah :
Kami amik tambahan snorkeling ke Pulau Rawa, Pulau Susu Dara dan Pulau Seringgih RM 30 per pax .

Hop-On Hop-Off Bus In Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur Hop-On Hop-Off Bus
If you just want to get around Kuala Lumpur and tour the city at your own leisure without:
* being tied down to rigid scheduled tours by tour agencies, or
* being irritated by unlucky encounter with unscrupulous taxi drivers, or
* getting lost by driving through unfamiliar roads
I would strongly suggest that you get on the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus. These double decker buses (with glass rooftop) will get you around Kuala Lumpur all day long! Traveller' Tale s

As independent travellers, we like to assume that we're above the workings of Tourist Zones. Look closely, and you'll notice that some of the most colourful indie-traveller hangouts in the world -Panajachel in Guatemala, Dali in China , Dahab in Egypt - have much in common. Granted, these place retain their own geographical and cultural distinction, but each location shares a laid-back predilection for catering to aesthic and recreational needs of Western budget travellers.
Thus, keeping in mind that much of our time as travellers involes moving in and out of Trourist Zones, here is my tip sheet to help you make sense of things:
*Learn to identify Tourist Zones - There's nothing necessarily wrong with a Tourist Zone, but it helps to know when you're in one, a it will affect how you relate to people. Tourist Zones include airport , hotels, bus and train stations , major city centerss, historical monuments and any place where travellers congregate in large numbers - including sleepy backpacker hangouts.
*Mind your manners - Though interaction with locals in Tourist Zones can often be impersonal and transaction-based ,be sure to abide by the simple rules of courtesy.Even when dealing with pushy vendors and aggressive touts, a firm , courteous "no thanks" is always better that angry rebuff.
*Dare to travel outside of Travel Zones - Invariably, the easiest way to get out of Tourist Zones and inti more authentic setting is to visit villages and neighbourhoods that aren't in any guidebooks or travel websites - places where other travellers never think to go.

Phuket-Penang direct flights to launch April 13

As part of a drive to boost the number of tourists to Malaysia, Malaysian Airlines’ new low-cost carrier Firefly airlines will start daily direct flights between Phuket and Penang beginning April 13.
Malaysian Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor discussed the new service at a press conference at the Royal Phuket City Hotel on Thursday.
Firefly, which will launch on April 2, will also start daily direct service between Samui and Penang on April 15.
Last year, about 1.9 million of Malaysia’s 17.5 million tourists were from Thailand, and Tourism Minister Adnan said that the country wants to increase that number to 2.2 million in the upcoming year.
“This year is very special year for Malaysia because Malaysia is going to celebrate our 50 years as an independent nation,” he said.
The target is 20.1 million tourists to Malaysia this year, he added.
Mr Adnan said that this year there will be 240 events held throughout Malaysia, which he hopes will attract Thai tourists.
The Malaysian Tourism Minister played down the troubles in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, saying that it had little effect on tourism in other areas.
“That’s why I’m traveling here. I’d like build confidence in my people that there is nothing wrong with Phuket, Haad Yai, Songkhla or anywhere else in southern Thailand,” he said.

New budget hotel lunching
Tune Hotels Sdn Bhd is expected to open at least five no-frills hotels this year, according to founder and director Datuk Tony Fernandes.
“We will open as many hotels as possible. We hope to have at least one Tune Hotels in every city in Malaysia,” he said at the media launch of Tune Hotels’ mock-up room at the company’s corporate office yesterday.
From left: Tune Hotels chief operating officer Andy Song, Dennis Melka, director Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, director Datuk Kalimullah Hassan and Datuk Tony Fernandes at the media launch of Tune Hotels' mock-up room
“We want to locate our hotels in city centres or tourist belts, not miles away where land costs may be lower,” he said, adding that the group was on constant lookout for properties.
Tune Hotels’ first hotel, which is currently being refurbished, is located at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, and is scheduled to open next month.
Kota Kinabalu, Johor Baru, Kuching and Penang were some of the major cities identified by Fernandes as locations for the group’s hotel chain.
He said the group, which had so far acquired five properties, spent an average of RM20mil for each property that it acquired.
Fernandes expressed confidence that its hotel chain would be able to break even “fairly quickly.”
To a question, he said Tune Hotels would like to solidify its position locally before venturing overseas.
Tune Hotels was also in talks with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd to explore the possibility of setting up no-frills hotels at airports in the country, Fernandes said.
Tune Hotels director Dennis Melka said all its hotels would have the same attributes – good location and chic, clean rooms in a safe environment, but no swimming pool, minibar, sofa or wardrobe.
“We are not skimping on the bed, the shower, the security and cleanliness. Those things are going to be a five-star experience. We are just cutting out the unnecessary items,” he added.
The promise of Tune Hotels rooms, Melka said, was that they would come with a “five-star” mattress, a “power shower”, air-conditioning, clean sheets, a high-quality duvet and thick high-grade towels. There would also be an electronic-based key card system and closed-circuit television surveillance in the hallways to ensure safety.
“Tune Hotels will offer rooms at rates from RM9.90 per night if bookings are made in advance and at non-peak times. The average room rate will, however, be about RM59.90,” Melka said.
On a separate issue, Fernandes said AirAsia Bhd was constantly monitoring fuel price movements, and would revise its current fuel surcharge only if there was a consistent declining trend in global fuel prices.
“The oil price trend is still rather volatile. We will only review it once it (oil price) reaches our target level,” said Fernandes, who is AirAsia group chief executive officer.
